The Nintendo 3DS eShop is slowly growing into a massive collection of digital download titles. The Nintendo eShop is home to some gaming classics, great remakes as well as some all new titles exclusive to the download store. Here are our favourite five eShop games...

 5. Picture Lives
Picture Lives is a great example of the creativity that download titles can produce. Pictures Lives has a very quirky look and uses the stylus to fling characters around levels, both of these make it instantly recognisable. The game lets you create your own characters using a vast selection of body parts so your lead character can be totally unique. User creativity is the core focus making it a great portable game for fans of LittleBigPlanet on the PlayStation 3.

 4. Angry Birds
Possibly the most popular game of recent times, Angry Birds has been a smash hit on mobile phones and tablets and is now available on the Nintendo 3DS. For those that have never played it Angry Birds sees you catapulting birds at evil pigs who are protected by walls and blocks. The physics are superb and there are some really challenging levels that will constantly bring you back for one more try.

 3. Pokedex 3D
Pokedex 3D is an all new title made exclusively for the 3DS eShop. While it is more of an app than a game it is still a great download. The Pokedex lets you look up a specific Pokemon and view it in full 3D. A recent update has added support for the Augmented Reality tools built into the 3DS letting you take your favourite Pokemon and unleash Pokemon into the real world with the AR cards.

 2. 3D Classics Excitebike
This NES remake was one of the first titles available in the eShop, it was also a free download so there's no denying it was great value for money. Excitebike has been released on a myriad of formats but the 3DS version is the most faithful to the NES classic. The graphics have been update to fit the wide 3DS screen and the visuals now pack an extra 3D depth. The gameplay remains exactly the same with you weaving around the track, flying off ramps and desperately balancing your throttle so as not to overheat your engine and forefit the race; however the developers have improved the track creation mode to make designing and saving your own levels much easier. Excitebike is a great example of a 3D remake done right, don't miss it.

 1. Mario Kart Super Circuit
This Virtual Console release of a GameBoy Advance classic was an exclusive for early 3DS buyers that were part of the Ambassador Programme. Mario Kart is a standout title on every console it has been released on and Super Circuit was no exception. The classic drifting and power-up enhanced racing is exactly as you remember, as are all your favourite Nintendo characters. Tracks created for Super Circuit were so popular with the community that they were included in Mario Kart Wii. Without a doubt Mario Kart Super Circuit is a great download title and the perfect way to brush up on your skills in anticipation for the release of Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS.

The Nintendo eShop has proven very popular with 3DS owners with more than 1 million 3DS eShop transactions being registered so far. Let us know your favourite 3DS eShop games in the comments section.

The Nintendo 3DS is packed full of clever ideas and technology but some feel it is lacking in one area, controls, specifically a second analogue input like the Circle Pad. There were recent rumours that suggested Nintendo may be working on a second version of the 3DS which would feature a second Circle Pad on the right hand side and that Nintendo were also developing a peripheral Circle Pad for the current Nintendo 3DS.

It seems some of those rumours were true as Nintendo have confirmed that a peripheral is on the way which will add a second Circle Pad to the 3DS. The add on will fit around the 3DS and put a second Circle Pad alongside the right hand face buttons, A B X and Y. The second Circle Pad connects to the 3DS' Expansion Port but it doesn't seem to need any complex tinkering with the 3DS itself. The peripheral Circle Pad is set to be released with Monster Hunter 3G in Japan on December 10th and will cost 1,500 Yen; around £12 over here. The Circle Pad peripheral is not just for Monster Hunter 3G though as it is compatible with other games including Resident Evil: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D and Kingdom Hearts 3D.

Nintendo aren't strangers to accessories or expansions, the original Game Boy had numerous peripherals and the Wii has a wealth of controller cases and alternative controllers. This 3DS accessory will need a AAA batter to work and will also add an extra shoulder button to the right hand side giving gamers, and programmers, an extra input as well as the Circle Pad. Since this peripheral has now been confirmed by Nintendo game developers may start using it as a part of the default control scheme, perhaps to control the in game view. This would make first person shooters on the 3DS a lot more like their home console brothers. The second Circle Pad will also make the 3DS very similar to the PlayStation Vita, its most direct competitor.

Could the rumours of a hardware redesign be true? Perhaps this optional Circle Pad is Nintendo's way of testing the waters and seeing if a second Circle Pad is needed. Will you be getting one, let us know in the comments below.

Online rumours have been suggesting that the 3DS, Nintendo's newest handheld, is set for a redesign with a brand new device coming in 2012 with some brand new features which some feel the 3DS is missing. The 3DS has only been out for 6 months but has faced tough questions about the 3D effect and taken a massive price drop in an effort to woo gamers. The rumours come from 01.net, a French site which has previously revealed accurate details on the PlayStation Vita and Wii U.

Among the many rumours are a couple of interesting ideas and speculations. First, the redesigned 3DS will be fitted with two analogue pads; these are the equivalent of your analogue sticks on your home console pads and are absolutely vital for controlling your movement and point of view. Some current 3DS games utilise the built in motion sensors to control your viewpoint but it can be difficult to focus on the action while tilting your console. The 01.net report suggests Nintendo are working on remedying that issue by developing a peripheral analogue pad to bring this functionality to current 3DS owners.

Another spectulation suggests that the new 3DS will have less focus on the 3D effect, which has been very difficult for Nintendo to show off in adverts, and will instead be more focused on the games and graphical power. This could include giving the new device a brand new name. One final interesting point suggests that the recent price drop was not only an effort to lure in more buyers but was also a move to clear stock of the orignal model in preparation for the updated edition.

If the rumours are true it would mean that Nintendo have two hardware releases due in 2012, the new 3DS and the Wii U. If Nintendo are developing a second version of the 3DS there are some other areas we could see them improving at the same time. Number one is the battery life, it's the bane of many a handheld gamer's life and is a common complaint among 3DS users; we've got some great tips to extend your 3DS's battery life though. Another improvement could be to turn the lower screen into a multi-touch input rather than a stylus reactive screen, those two analogue pads would make holding a stylus at the same pretty difficult. Moving to touch input would also put the next 3DS in stronger competiton with Sony's PlayStation Vita which has front and rear touch inputs.

When Nintendo released the 3DS there was a choice of two colours, Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue. To celebrate another legendary N64 remake the Nintendo 3DS is getting a new colour, Flame Red.

The Flame Red colour will be released at the same time as Star Fox 64 3D, a remake/update of the N64 flight combat game featuring fan favourite Fox McCloud. Similar to the remake of Ocarina of Time the update of Star Fox 64 isn't just a carbon copy, new features and modes have been added. These include 4 person multiplayer, improved graphics and motion controls. Star Fox 64 3D will also use the 3DS' built in camera to display your opponents reactions while fighting, a great addition to the usually faceless multiplayer world. Take a look at the trailer to see the game in action...

The new Flame Red colour launches in September and certainly reminds us of a certain Italian plumber but it should also look suitably festive when Christmas comes around. The new colour will also sport the new lower price so those who waited to get one have had their patience rewarded.

Take a look at this list of five titles that we’d love to see return…

 5. Star Wars Rogue Squadron
We couldn’t get enough of Rogue Squadron when it came out on the N64, putting you in control of the iconic ships from the original trilogy (along with some bonus ones too) Rogue Squadron let you take part in iconic moments from the films. From the Death Star trench run to tying up AT-AT legs and protecting Tattooine in an X-Wing this game had them all. Bonus missions were included but we’d love to see some new additions such as new ships and maybe even a Podracing mini-game.

 4. Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Snap let you take pictures of your favourite Pokemon while they’re out and about in their own world. One of the more serene Pokemon titles, all you have to do is take photos; the game even takes care of moving for you so that you can focus on getting the right angle for your pictures. While it sounds boring we can’t stop thinking about what could be done with the 3DS’ Augmented Reality feature. Imagine walking through town and seeing dozens of Pokemon flying around or popping out from behind corners, that alone makes us want to see a new version of Pokemon Snap.

 3. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was one of the stand-out titles on the Gamecube, unfortunately it didn't get the audience it deserved. The 3DS has already been graced with one horror game in the shape of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, with another Resident Evil game already on the way. There's clearly an audience for horror games on the 3DS and Eternal Darkness would be a great addition. For those that didn't play it, Sanity's Requiem is, as the title suggests, based around insantiy. As you progress through the game your characters slowly lose their minds which leads to crazy in game effects like simulated game crashes, distorted visuals and imaginary enemies. The combination of insanity and immersive 3D is surely too good to pass up?

 2. Goldeneye 64
Goldeneye has already had the update treatment with a Wii remake but while it tried to stay true to the original there were just a few too many changes which left us wanting to dig out the original again. Goldeneye 64 led to other classics like TimeSplitters and Perfect Dark but Goldeneye is remembered for its frantic multiplayer, which absolutely has to make it across if a 3DS remake ever happened; the story, levels and weapon balancing were all big factors in Goldeneye 64 too. A similar update treatment to Zelda: Ocarina of Time would be ideal, improve the graphics and add to the original but otherwise leave it alone.

 1. Super Smash Bros.
What do you get when you put many of Nintendo’s iconic characters into one title? A massive fight if Super Smash Bros. is to be believed. Pitting the likes of Mario, Zelda, StarFox and more against each other was a genius move and we can’t wait for a 3DS version. Big combos, epic moves and frantic action made it a hit on home consoles, now we want to take that action with us. The 3DS certainly has the power for it; we just hope Nintendo makes it happen.

Sales for Nintendo's new 3DS have been somewhat slow, in an effort to entice more gamers to take up the new console Nintendo are dropping the price, considerably. A brand new 3DS console will now set you back £115, a massive drop from the £200+ price tag it launched with.

While the price has been a big factor in the slow sales another factor is a lack of Nintendo 3DS games, the Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, is promising some new titles will kick-start the system again. Recent reveals at E3 have unveiled a line up of big Nintendo names including Starfox, Pokemon and the iconic Mario with titles from each promised in the months leading up to Christmas.

Early adopters of Nintendo's 3D console shouldn't feel too disheartened by the price drop as they were able to take part in the Ambassador Program which will give them 10 free NES games and 10 free Game Boy Advance games from the eShop which are playable through the Virtual Console. These games include Super Marios Bros, Donkey Kong Jr, Metroid Fusion and Mario Kart: Super Circuit, on top of that these games will be available to Ambassadors before they're available to others.

While all eyes may have been on Nintendo's newest console, the WiiU, there was still a lot of focus on their fantastic handheld. Nintendo unveiled a whole host of new 3DS games, here's just a few of the greats...

Luigi's Mansion 2

The original Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube was an immensely popular title that featured Mario's, often uncelebrated, brother Luigi facing a mansion full of ghosts and ghouls armed with a humble vacuum cleaner. The original title was also part of the inital layered screen experiments that led to the 3DS so the sequel will finally show off Nintendo's original vision.

Mario Kart 3DS

Mario Kart has always been a massive success on every console it's reached. Mario Kart brings together the biggest characters from the Mario series for a grand prix of epic proportions. Massive drifts, hilarious power-ups and superb handling are now joined with new vehicles and 3D effects, which should help make aiming and dodging shells much easier. Mario Kart is also set to run at 60 FPS which will keep even the fastest action in pin sharp focus.

Super Mario 3DS

What's better than one Mario game being announced? How about two? Mario is set to get his own adventure on the 3DS in Super Mario 3DS. Nintendo will use the 3D effect with subtlety to draw players further into the game. Sticking with the 2D traditions which made the series so popular Super Mario 3DS will be instantly accessible to new and old gamers alike. We can't wait for Mario's next adventure.

Ubisoft Stop Development of 3DS Assassin's Creed

The 3DS debut of Assassin's Creed has been one of the most eagerly anticipated titles for Nintendo's new system. Unfortunately Ubisoft have confirmed the worst fears of gamers and cancelled the title to focus on other projects.

We had a feeling the axe was looming over the title's head after it was curiously absent at this year's E3 Expo without even so much as a screenshot or update coming from the Ubisoft camp. Instead a lot of the focus was on the upcoming home console title, Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Farewell Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy

The story of Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy was to have Ezio Auditore Da Firenze visiting Masyaf and exploring the origins of the Creed, this story has been absorbed into the full home console release and seems to be a key factor in the cancellation. Those hooked into the story and history of the Assassin's Creed world will have to wait until November when Revelations is released to play through the story originally destined for the 3DS.

Fingers crossed Ubisoft will consider the 3DS audience again after Revelations is released as we can't wait to run across rooftops and dive from towers in fantastic 3D.
